Sharing
How do I share records with a kennel, groomer or vet?
Tap Share, pick the pets, then pick what the link is for: Boarding, Groomer, New Vet or Custom. Check which sections are included, then send a link, a PDF or both.
At the desk, tap Show QR at the desk after making a link. It shows a large QR code of the live link and turns the screen brightness up so it scans easily. When you make both a PDF and a link, the PDF can carry the same QR code, and you can turn that off.
A link always shows the latest records. If you add a vaccine after sending it, the person you sent it to sees the update the next time they open it.
How do I know if someone opened my link?
Open Links in the app. Each link shows when it was last opened and, once it has been opened more than once, how many times. Pet Papers never learns who opened it.
How do I turn off a link?
Open Links, find the link, tap Revoke, then Turn off link. It stops working as soon as your phone is online, usually right away, and its encrypted copy is deleted from our server. Anyone who opens it after that sees a page saying the link is no longer active.
A PDF you already sent is a separate file, so turning off a link doesn’t take it back.
Someone says my link shows “This link is no longer active.”
That link was turned off, either on this device or by someone in your household. Share again to send a new link. Links for a pet you move to Past pets keep working until you turn them off.
Someone says my link “looks incomplete.”
The key that unlocks the records is the long part of the link after the # sign. Some apps cut links short when they’re copied or forwarded. Send the link again from Pet Papers and ask them to open it exactly as sent.
Can people I share with change my records?
No. A shared link is read only. It shows the records you chose to include and nothing else, and it never includes the name you gave the link.
Records
What do “Document attached” and “Owner entered” mean?
Document attached means the clinic’s paperwork, like a rabies certificate, invoice or vaccination record, is saved with that record. People you share with can view it. On a shared link this shows as “Vet document.”
Owner entered means you typed the record in yourself and there’s no document behind it yet. On a shared link this shows as “Entered by owner.” Many kennels and groomers want the vet’s paperwork, so attach it when you can.
What is the counter view?
Tap Show at desk on a pet to open a simple, bright screen with rabies first and every other vaccine below it. It raises the screen brightness while it’s open, so it’s easy to read when you turn your phone around at a counter.
How does Pet Papers read my documents?
When you add a certificate or invoice, Pet Papers reads the vaccine names and dates on your iPhone or iPad. The document isn’t uploaded anywhere to be scanned. You review what it found before anything is saved.
Reminders
When do reminders arrive?
Booster reminders come 30 days before a vaccine is due, 7 days before and on the due date. Turn any of them on or off and pick the time of day in Settings, under Booster reminders. Each record also has its own reminders switch. A booster reminder has a Call Vet button.
Flea, tick and heartworm doses get a reminder on the dose day. Set the default time in Settings, under Preventive doses, or give a product its own time. Mark Given on the notification logs the dose without opening the app.
Why didn’t I get a reminder?
Reminders are notifications scheduled on your iPhone or iPad. Check that notifications for Pet Papers are on in the Settings app, then check the reminder settings in Pet Papers and the record’s own reminders switch. Pets in Past pets don’t get reminders.
Household and iCloud
How do I invite someone to my household?
Open Settings, tap Household, then Invite someone. Pet Papers sends the invite through Apple’s iCloud sharing, so they accept with their own Apple Account and don’t need a Pet Papers account. Choose whether each person can make changes or can only view. Once they join, they see every pet. Everyone in the household gets reminders on their own devices, using their own reminder settings. Only people who can make changes can update records and mark a dose given.
I’m not signed in to iCloud. What happens?
Your records stay on this device only. They won’t sync to your other devices, household sharing is off, and they can’t be restored if this device is lost. To turn on iCloud, open the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, and make sure you’re signed in. Then open Pet Papers again.
What if I get a new phone?
Sign in to the same Apple Account and install Pet Papers. Your pets, records and documents come back from your iCloud. Since Pet Papers is a one-time purchase, you can download it again at no charge.
The app
Which devices does Pet Papers work on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later.
Can my family use my purchase?
Yes. Pet Papers is a one-time purchase that works with Family Sharing, so people in your Family Sharing group can download it at no extra charge. To share the same pets, invite them to your household too.
How do I export or delete my data?
To keep a copy, open Settings in the app and tap Export everything. It saves a zip file of your records on your device.
You can delete any record or document in the app. To remove everything, including past pets, delete Pet Papers’ data from iCloud: open the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage.
